The animal shelter is run by the Altmärkische Tierschutzverein Kreis Stendal e.V. (Altmark Animal Welfare Association of the Stendal District). Founded in 1990, the association is a member of the German Animal Welfare Association (Deutscher Tierschutzbund e.V.) and the German Animal Welfare Association (Deutscher Tierschutzbund Sachsen-Anhalt Regional Association). It is also recognized as a non-profit organization and particularly deserving of support. Accordingly, donations to the animal shelter and the association, as well as membership fees, are tax-deductible. Bequests are also exempt from inheritance tax.
