I'm Smarty

—an active and lively cat looking for a sensitive home.

This is me:

Originally adopted as a kitten from a farm, I lived with my family in a small apartment with a balcony. Due to a swallowed foreign object, I needed surgery as soon as possible. Unfortunately, my family couldn't afford the surgery and took me to the animal shelter. I didn't feel very comfortable there and wanted to go home immediately: no couch, no bed, no familiar smells or people around me—everything was awful.

Thankfully, we reached an agreement, and I was allowed to return to my family. Everything seemed to be back to normal. However, because of everything that had happened, I lost my trust and began questioning everything. I no longer felt safe, everything overwhelmed me, and I reacted defensively. Ultimately, my family decided to rehome me with experienced cat owners, as living with them was no longer possible.

I had to move twice in quick succession, and both times I reacted defensively and wouldn't let anyone near me. Anyone who got too close felt my claws and teeth – I just wanted to protect myself!

Finally, I ended up back at the animal shelter. After settling in a bit, I'm doing much better. The animal caretakers spend a lot of time with me every day and put in a lot of effort. We play, cuddle, and a while ago we even started clicker training. I still have some trouble concentrating, but we'll get there 😉

My animal caretakers would describe me as a very active, restless, and affectionate cat who still always keeps her escape route open. Trust is key here too #8211; We work on it every day so that I can feel safe and secure.

I wish for…people who have experience and a great sensitivity to cat body language. To satisfy my need for exercise, a house with a garden in a rural setting would be ideal. I don't like other cats very much and would like to have my home all to myself. Due to my insecurity and skittish nature, children shouldn't live with me.

I'm sure there's the right home out there for me too – I firmly believe that. I'm already looking forward to my new happiness.
