I'm Barsik

—a clever, sensitive cat looking for a very special home.

This is me:

I'm people-oriented, curious, and always want to be involved—but on my terms. I rub against your legs, I'm always present, but I'm not your typical cuddly cat. Physical contact is only allowed when I want it—and you really have to respect that, even though I'm adorable and you'd love to pet me. I need routine and a structured daily life; it gives me security. I'm doing well at the shelter and I'm unobtrusive: I follow the rules as long as mine are respected. I'm calm, even with visitors, and overall a pleasant housemate.

I love going outside and sunbathing. I don't get along with other cats here and would therefore prefer to be the only cat in the household. I'm also quite clever and enjoy food games or small changes in my environment. I also love small, cozy nests. Health-wise, I have coxarthrosis (hip arthritis), so higher jumps are a bit difficult for me. I need a well-equipped apartment with climbing opportunities, raised litter boxes, and pain medication. Here at the shelter, I'm inconspicuous because the established routines and the fact that I'm accepted as I am help me. But I can also be ambivalent, which is why I've been returned from adoptions before. However, my early life simply wasn't ideal for me – I was taken from my mother and sold too young, and even after that, my living conditions weren't initially good for me. And so I learned to set boundaries myself. Stress, commotion, crowding – I don't like any of that. I want freedom, routines, and acceptance; then I can be a wonderful roommate. I wish for… A quiet home with clear, confident people who are patient and won't overwhelm me. Ideally, it would be in a rural setting with not too many people in the household. The settling-in period should be taken seriously – I need time to arrive. It's important for me to have access to the outdoors via a cat flap so I can decide for myself when I want to go in and out. And of course, I also need plenty of quiet places to retreat to. Please plan several visits to the shelter to get to know me. Would you like to meet me? I'm sure there's a perfect home out there for me too. And I haven't given up hope!
