The sensitive mixed-breed dog Crassus is unfortunately not as self-confident as his name might initially suggest. A lack of security and leadership has led him to put himself in the front line and assume the role of "boss"—a position he dislikes and which further reinforces his insecurity. He has unfortunately never learned how to avoid conflicts or resolve them without stress, which is why only "flight" or a staged "attack" come to mind. If someone is very self-confident, Crassus tends to be timid. Conversely, shy people make the mixed-breed dog very insecure. Meanwhile, Crassus has settled into his new daily routine at the animal shelter and is fully involved in training. The lively dog clearly enjoys practicing with his handlers and appreciates the mental stimulation during walks. Even though training is still completely new territory for Crassus, he is trying his best to please his trainers and is making steady progress. Despite everything, training is an ongoing process, and it takes time to transform an insecure, leash-reactive dog into a relaxed and well-behaved companion. This time and effort are worthwhile and will determine the future relationship between human and dog. Even though Crassus now responds well to the guidance of his caregivers, he knows exactly what is important to him. Food is a particularly important resource for Crassus, one he already defended in his previous home. He has gradually learned to hold back and wait for permission to eat, instead of immediately rushing to everything edible. This checking in and orienting himself towards his caregivers is an important skill for him, one that is regularly tested during walks. It helps him to take a step back and not always feel responsible. Even during encounters with other dogs, he is increasingly able to remain calm and relies on the support of his handlers. Becoming that handler requires sensitivity and patience to gain the trust of the cautious male dog. Once this has been achieved, the path to a shared future is clear.
