The Märkisch Buchholz animal shelter is idyllically yet somewhat hidden in the middle of the forest – a quiet retreat where animals in need have found protection, care, and a new perspective for over 30 years. Our shelter is supported by the non-profit Tierschutzverein Königs Wusterhausen e. V. (Animal Welfare Association of Königs Wusterhausen), which has over 300 members. Our dedicated team consists of ten employees, three trainees, and one volunteer serving on the Federal Volunteer Service (Bundesfreiwilligendienst). We also regularly accompany student interns – because animal welfare is also an educational activity. Many people discover our shelter quite by chance – but it is a place full of life, heart, and stories. On over five hectares of land, we lovingly care for up to 45 dogs, 56 cats, and numerous small animals. Each of them has its own unique story – and deserves a home that's just right for them. We take time for our animals and also for the people who want to give them a new home. Because for us, it's not about finding a quick home, but the right one.
