Post from August 2025:

Firlefanz came to us as a stray and was subsequently rehomed with the finder. Unfortunately, it turned out in his new home that Firlefanz doesn't take training and boundaries very seriously. In an attempt to teach the agile and frisky Firlefanz rules, he bit his owner several times.

As already described above, Firlefanz is a very active dog and highly motivated to hunt. Here at our animal shelter, within a structured environment and with clear consequences, Firlefanz has so far proven to be well-behaved and gets along well with other dogs. Currently, we are training Firlefanz to wear a muzzle and to walk nicely on a leash. Our trainer is also working with him on accepting rules in a home environment. Firlefanz still has a lot to learn regarding resource management. He needs very consistent leadership and clear boundaries from his new family, otherwise he quickly reverts to old behavior patterns. Once the basic rules are clear, we can easily imagine that Firlefanz could benefit from an exciting dog sport. Furthermore, Firlefanz is not a suitable dog for a household with children. Due to its pronounced hunting instinct, there should be no cats or other small animals in the house.
