The young female dog Ellie came to our animal shelter as a seizure and is now looking for suitable owners who are aware of the responsibility that comes with owning a dog. That a young dog requires a lot of work is no surprise – especially with a body weight of 30kg, early training would have been helpful, but now it's up to us (and future dog owners) to show the four-legged chaos its limits. Her past was anything but rosy, but fortunately, the negative experiences with certain individuals haven't dampened her lively nature and general openness towards people and dogs. Quite the opposite – “stormy” is an understatement… She’s currently learning that one can also be happy more calmly, without attacking every two-legged creature, but as so often, she’s testing her limits here too. What seems funny is actually much more calculated. When a dog breaks a given command by getting up and walking away, most people notice it immediately. But if the same dog rolls cutely onto its back and makes silly faces again, it often not only gets its way, but even has its belly rubbed in the end. The mouse tries to do the same, which is why it's important to stay strong: a conciliatory kiss here, a little wriggling out there – none of this should wrap you around your finger too much. Overall, there's still a lot of training on the agenda, not only to master everyday life, but also an upcoming temperament test. With her unusual coloring, Madame immediately stands out, yet she shares her true fate with many other fellow sufferers who aren't noticed so quickly. As an American Staffordshire Terrier mix, Ellie is classified as a dangerous dog breed, and keeping such dogs is prohibited in Bavaria. In other German states, proof of competence and a temperament test are required to own one. However, the exact requirements can vary from municipality to municipality. Anyone who does not meet the requirements can expect fines or even the confiscation of their dog. Better safe than sorry, or as they say: asking doesn't cost anything. Therefore, we recommend that interested parties establish contact with their own community early on in order to discuss the procedure for keeping the animal in advance.
