We took Inge in as a stray at the dog shelter in April. She had been found tied up in poor condition, emaciated, and with an inflamed eye.
During the subsequent quarantine, she turned out to be affectionate, cuddly, and playful.
We quickly realized that she knew almost nothing, not even walks. Just a quick trip outside to relieve herself. Now she really enjoys short walks, and if it's not too hot, she'll even go for an hour. She loves being outdoors and exploring everything. She also loves car rides.
Unfortunately, she's aggressive towards other dogs, probably because she's never had much contact with them. She also barks at and attacks strangers. It can take time for Inge to truly trust people – but with food and kindness, it often works, and then it's wonderful to have her as a friend. She wants to be involved in everything and loves being held or sat on laps – she really enjoys physical contact and the company of "her humans." If no one is with her, she still cries a lot. She probably hasn't learned to be alone. To make life safer for her and everyone involved, we're now working with Inge to get her used to wearing a muzzle, and we use clicker training and reward her with treats when she does something well. It's not rocket science and can be learned quickly; we'd be happy to recommend a trainer to anyone interested. For her dry eye, she needs to receive eye ointment several times a day for the rest of her life. Her food also has to be hypoallergenic to prevent itching. Since then, her symptoms have improved significantly. Inge handles visits to the vet wonderfully; she's simply exemplary. You can visit and meet Inge at the dog shelter in Varlosen by prior arrangement. You are welcome to meet Inge at the Varlosen dog shelter by prior arrangement.
