Animal in need due to: accident consequences with permanent hind leg impairment / Milo uses a wheelchair
Background
Milo was found by a young girl after lying immobilized by the roadside – presumably the victim of a traffic accident. She immediately took him to the vet, as Milo couldn't properly use his hind legs and was dragging his rear end. In Greece, Milo was subsequently examined and treated. Despite his significant physical limitations, he developed into a cheerful and people-oriented little fellow. On September 26, 2026, Milo was finally able to travel to Germany and has been living in a foster home in 27578 Bremerhaven ever since. There, it becomes clearer every day how much joie de vivre and adventurous spirit he possesses. Milo is an absolute sweetheart and a little ray of sunshine with a huge dose of joie de vivre! Cheerful, curious, cuddly, and full of energy, he wants to be involved in everything. He loves being close to his people, enjoys (and truly seeks out) every stroke, and looks forward to shared activities. His boundless joy in discovering the world is particularly impressive. Milo wants to run, sniff, explore, and simply be a dog. His physical characteristics hardly hold him back; quite the opposite, in fact: with each passing day, he gains strength, self-confidence, and independence. This little guy has a lot of personality! Milo is bright, self-confident, and definitely knows what he wants. He can be a bit bold with other dogs, so he thrives with people who handle him lovingly and confidently. Milo has settled in wonderfully at his foster home. He enjoys the security of a home, has quickly adapted to the daily routines, and is proving to be a cheerful and adventurous companion. Special Features (October 15, 2026)
Various examinations revealed the consequences of Milo's earlier accident: His pelvis was injured and has not fully healed into its original shape. As a result, it is now crooked and deformed. The connection between his pelvis and spine is also displaced on one side. In addition, his hips and knees are stiff and have limited mobility. Despite these changes, there is very good news: Milo can consciously move and bend both hind legs and has sensation in both legs. However, his nerves react more slowly than in a healthy dog. Due to the muscle loss caused by the accident, his hindquarters still lack the strength to fully support his body weight. To best support his mobility, he has therefore been given a custom-made wheelchair. He immediately took to his "carpet Porsche" with great enthusiasm and now zooms around with it full of energy. He continues to actively use his hind legs, while the wheelchair provides him with the necessary stability. Milo is making great progress and can now even move around the house independently and without the wheelchair. He currently only needs it for walks, and even lifting his leg to mark his territory is working now :-)
We have also gained new insights into his bladder and bowel function. Contrary to our initial assumption that Milo was not incontinent, it has unfortunately become apparent in his foster home that his bladder and bowel control is limited. The good news is that Milo can urinate consciously and independently. However, since he cannot completely empty his bladder on his own, he regularly requires some manual assistance. With this help, his daily routine can be managed well. Due to his neurological limitations, he cannot always consciously control his bowel movements, so occasionally a small accident can happen unnoticed. His foster family is already coping well with these peculiarities. With a little practice, attention, and a consistent routine, the necessary support can also be easily integrated into everyday life. Ideal Home: We are looking for people for Milo who don't see his disability first, but the wonderful little dog behind it. His new home should be prepared to support him with his physical needs, especially regular bladder emptying, and be able to calmly handle occasional accidents. Experience with a disabled dog would be wonderful, but is not a requirement – nor is a securely fenced garden. Much more important to us are a sense of responsibility, empathy, and a willingness to adapt to Milo's special needs. He wants to actively participate in life, be outdoors, and continue to use and improve his newfound mobility. His future owners should therefore not only offer him the necessary support, but also trust him and strengthen his independence. Since Milo is a self-confident little character, we wish for people who will treat him with patience, loving consistency, and clear direction. If there are already dogs in the home, mutual compatibility is important. Milo doesn't need pity, but rather people who love him just as he is and give him the chance to simply be a dog. Anyone who embraces this will gain an incredibly funny, cuddly, and cheerful little companion who impressively demonstrates that a disability doesn't necessarily mean a lower quality of life.
