consisting of the Pritzwalk animal protection association and the private initiative Prignitzer Katzenkinder in Not, has been involved in the area around Pritzwalk for years, among other things, with unwanted, abandoned kittens, stray cats, their castrations and the search for a home for them. In regular press articles we call for castration, help to catch animals and support people who can no longer care for their animals for health or financial reasons. Especially in rural areas, the stray problem is unfortunately still often ignored by cities and municipalities, people who seek help there are usually fobbed off. As a result, animals from a radius of 50 km now end up with us. Every year we have 120-200 cats neutered and take in around 200 stray animals, many of them young animals. We are just a small group of 5-7 people who are constantly working actively and voluntarily and are constantly reaching their limits. Values For us, animal protection does not just mean reducing reproduction, but also and above all helping the animals when they need help. This includes finding a suitable home as well as feeding them and providing veterinary care in the event of illness. A homeless, poorly fed, abandoned animal suffers from parasites and infections much more often than a cared for and vaccinated animal. A shy, disturbed animal that may have had bad experiences with people often takes a long time to regain trust. But animal protection also means educating people, raising awareness of the problem among the population and looking for solutions together with them. Daily work Caring for the animals including visits to the vet, socialization, catching strays, discussions with authorities and municipalities, mediation discussions, submitting funding applications, public relations work. We are currently setting up a large outdoor enclosure for strays that are no longer allowed to return to their home after castration. We are also expanding our rescue centers. A new cat house is being built as well as a heated area for motherless kittens, sick, injured or weak animals.
