History & Pictures 1866 The animal protection and beautification association was founded in Frankenberg/Eder. The association made it its mission to plant trees and hang up nesting boxes. 1956 The Frankenberg animal protection association was founded, which was then converted into a non-profit association in 1957. The forerunner of the animal shelter was an outdoor area for stray dogs. This outdoor area belonged to a member of the industrial yard (Burgwald). 1971 The first kennel complex was added to the construction yard and in 1972 a field barn was added to the Wehrweide. 1988 The animal shelter in Schreufa was able to open its doors. Since then, there have been constant renovations such as conversions and extensions.
