I'm Roy
I was rescued for animal welfare reasons; unfortunately, I was very badly treated in my previous home. This has left its mark and made me an insecure, traumatized dog. Since then, I've been very distrustful of people and usually find them scary. So, I'll need a lot of time to trust and warm up.
I know basic commands and am house-trained. With my people, I'm affectionate and playful, sometimes seek physical contact, and like to cuddle—but even then, I don't want to be touched unprompted. I'm food-motivated and eager to learn, I wear my muzzle well, and I get along with female dogs depending on whether they like each other.
Typical of my breed, I have a very low threshold for escalation. I don't like being touched unprompted. If I feel threatened, I will also take the initiative. But I only exhibit this behavior then – I don't attack for no reason. Unfortunately, I also bark and lunge on the leash, staring intently at people and dogs during walks. I also become very fixated on toys, so these should be avoided. Calm toys (e.g., Kongs or lick mats, etc.) are no problem, though. Car rides still need to be tested, as does being left alone. I have cherry eye and am currently undergoing medical training to better manage it. I also have age-related joint problems and receive pain medication for them. In addition, I have allergies and receive special food, which I tolerate well at the shelter. I wish for a home experienced with my breed, where people can read my body language well. My humans should give me time to settle in and not pressure me. A quiet, low-stimulus home is important to me – preferably on the outskirts of a city or in the countryside. I shouldn't climb stairs. There shouldn't be any children living in the household. Structure, clear leadership, and good management in the home environment are essential for me. Will there be a home for me? I want it so badly.
